HOLLAND – The Toledo Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle crash involving a school bus that occurred Thursday afternoon in Springfield Township.

The crash happened August 21, 2025, at approximately 2:41 p.m. on Centennial Road near Hidden Forest Drive. Investigators say a Springfield Local School District bus, driven by Joseph Garcia, 71, of Holland, had stopped on southbound Centennial Road to drop off students when it was struck from behind by a Ford F-150 driven by Drew Mikolajczyk, 27, of Toledo.

The bus had its red lights activated and stop arm extended at the time of the crash. Thirty-five students were on board, and one student sustained minor injuries. The student was released to their parents at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

Mikolajczyk was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead and for failing to stop for a stopped school bus.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office and the Springfield Local School District. Officials are reminding drivers to use caution and remain alert with schools back in session.
