Residents across portions of northwest Ohio should prepare for several days of dangerous heat as the National Weather Service has extended a Heat Advisory through 8 p.m. Thursday.
The advisory remains in effect for Lucas, Wood and Hancock counties.
Forecasters say afternoon temperatures combined with high humidity could produce heat index values as high as 105 degrees through Thursday evening.
The prolonged stretch of hot and humid weather increases the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially for older adults, young children, people who work outdoors and those without access to air conditioning.
The National Weather Service recommends drinking plenty of water, spending time in air-conditioned buildings when possible, avoiding prolonged time in the sun, and checking on relatives, neighbors and others who may be vulnerable to the heat.
