MAUMEE, Ohio — A new ownership group is preparing to launch an $89 million redevelopment of the Fallen Timbers shopping center, bringing a new name, new tenants and major upgrades to the retail destination.
As part of the project, the center will be rebranded as Timbers Town Center. Developers say renovations are expected to begin in the coming weeks and are aimed at revitalizing the property while attracting additional visitors.
The development team has already secured commitments for approximately 70,000 square feet of new retail space, with the first tenant announcements expected in the coming weeks. Some businesses could open before the end of the year.
Current anchor stores, including Cinemark, Dillard’s and JCPenney, are expected to remain at the shopping center.
In addition to attracting new businesses, the redevelopment will include improvements to sidewalks, landscaping and other infrastructure throughout the property.
Developers say the investment is intended to modernize the center and position it for long-term growth while bringing renewed activity to one of the region’s largest shopping destinations.
The shopping center originally opened in October 2007 as The Shops at Fallen Timbers, an open-air lifestyle center developed by General Growth Properties after nearly a decade of planning and design changes. The project was first proposed in the late 1990s and initially envisioned as a traditional enclosed mall before developers shifted to an outdoor concept. The development also generated debate because of its proximity to the historic Battle of Fallen Timbers site, with some preservation advocates expressing concerns about the project’s impact on the area’s historical significance.
