Police Situation WP.png

Napoleon, Ohio – Officials with Napoleon Fire and Rescue say a person was rescued from the Maumee River after falling through the ice Friday night.

Officials say just before 8:30 p.m. they responded to a report of a person falling through the ice. After arriving, crews say they deployed an airboat and began a search pattern in the area of Ritter and Meyerholtz Parks.

Around 8:42 p.m., fire and rescue officials say they located the victim in the water, clinging to the unbroken ice. That victim was pulled from the ice and transported to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Napoleon Fire and Rescue used this incident to remind the public that no ice is safe ice. Officials say to use extreme caution any time you are around ice because conditions can change in a matter of seconds.
