GRAND RAPIDS, OH — April 14, 2025 — According to approved minutes from its April 14 meeting, the Grand Rapids Village Council took action on several items tied to community events, infrastructure improvements, and fiscal oversight.

Council approved $103,987.55 in village expenses from March 21 to April 10. Major items included final payment on a new salt storage building, playground mulch for multiple parks, sidewalk improvements, and engineering costs related to storm sewer repairs. Around $30,000 of those expenses are expected to be reimbursed through grant programs.

Two public property use permits were unanimously approved for Rapids Rally Days (July 11–13) and a kickoff event hosted by the Grand Rapids Arts Council. Both events will include live music and will operate under temporary liquor permits.

Council also approved a $30,000 contract with Lake Erie Tree Service to remove 84 trees along the historic canal. That work has since been completed in the past several weeks. Additional updates included repairs to a catch basin at Third and Bridge Street and plans to install another catch basin near recently cleared willow trees.

The village noted that the community recycling bins are currently unmonitored after the local scout troop stepped down from the role. Misuse of the bins remains a concern, and the mayor warned that continued issues could lead to their removal.

Other approved items included a renovation proposal from the Grand Rapids Historical Society to update a room in Town Hall, with costs split between the society and the village. Council also held the first reading of a resolution to participate in the 2025 ODOT road salt purchasing program.

Grand Rapids Council meets the second and fourth Monday of the month at 6 p.m. Minutes can be downloaded from GrandRapidsOhio.com.
