MAUMEE, Ohio — A man is in custody after a police pursuit that ended with a crash and a vehicle fire in uptown Maumee.

WTOL reports 24-year-old Jeffrey Hunt II led officers on a chase that began in Bowling Green and stretched into Lucas County. The pursuit started near Bowling Green State University, when Hunt allegedly stole earbuds from landscapers and fled as police approached.

Investigators say Hunt drove onto the property of Lake Erie Electric along State Route 582 before slipping away from officers and re-entering traffic. The chase eventually resumed and continued north toward Maumee.

The pursuit came to a head at the intersection of Conant and Dudley streets, where Hunt collided with another vehicle and a police cruiser. His vehicle then caught fire, creating a chaotic scene in the uptown district.

Law enforcement officers quickly moved in, ordering Hunt to exit the burning vehicle. Video from the scene shows him crawling from the car before being taken into custody following a brief struggle.

Hunt was treated at a hospital for minor injuries before being booked into the Wood County Jail. He faces multiple charges, including failure to comply with police, aggravated vehicular assault, and theft.
