FULTON COUNTY, Ohio — School leaders across Fulton County are raising concerns after state discussions suggested the possibility of consolidating districts to reduce costs.
A letter signed by all seven county superintendents was shared publicly this week, outlining opposition to the idea and urging lawmakers to maintain local control. The superintendents argue that combining districts could disrupt community traditions, increase class sizes, and weaken educational experiences for students.
The discussion stems from comments made during statewide property tax reform talks, where consolidation was mentioned as one way to cut administrative expenses. Supporters of the concept say it could reduce overhead, while critics worry it would erode community identity and burden taxpayers.
State Senator Rob McColley of Napoleon has stated he does not support forced consolidation and pledged it will not happen while he is in office.
