Severe Weather Alert: Enhanced Risk for Wood County Sunday

Grand Rapids, OH – The Wood County Emergency Management Agency is warning residents to prepare for potentially severe weather this evening as the region remains under an “Enhanced Risk” (3 out of 5) for severe storms.

As the storm system moves through the country, it has already produced large hail, heavy rain, and damaging winds in multiple states.

Timing & Threats: The most dangerous window for storms in Wood County is between 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM. Forecasters warn that these storms could bring:

  • Wind gusts between 50-70 mph, capable of causing widespread damage
  • Large hail, posing a threat to vehicles, structures, and outdoor items
  • The possibility of an isolated tornado

Potential impacts include downed trees, power outages, and road blockages. Residents are urged to prepare accordingly and stay informed.

Recommended Precautions:

  • Charge cell phones in case of power outages
  • Have flashlights ready with fresh batteries
  • Adjust travel plans to avoid being on the roads during peak storm hours
  • Ensure multiple ways to receive alerts (CodeRED, weather apps, NOAA weather radio, local media)
