The second program of the Rhythm on the River Arts Series in Grand Rapids will be presented by Organic Ingredients on Sunday, June 28th at 4:00 p.m. The programs are held in the Wright Pavilion located on the towpath between the canal and the Maumee River at the end of Lincoln Street behind LaRoe’s Venue. TheRhythm programs are sponsored by the Grand Rapids Historical Society and are free to the public. Members of Organic Ingredients are Tim Tiderman (Hammond organ, vocals, jokes), Bob Manley (sax, flute), John Johnson (guitar, vocals), and Clark Brooks (drums, vocals). They have been playing together since 2010. Throughout music history (particularly in the 20th century), many groups came up with band names to play off the word “organ” since a lot of bands revolved their sound around organ, more or less. According to Tiderman, the word “ingredients” was thrown in based on how the group collaborates, The drummer will pick a beat, the organ plays the song, and then the other instruments are added until all “ingredients” are heard. The band plays every Wednesday at Maumee Bay Brewing Company and presents live, improvised music focusing on jazz, soul, and R&B. These seasoned musicians incorporate riveting solos into their performances making their concerts memorable and keeping their fan base growing. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and join us in this beautiful setting alongside the Maumee River to take a musical journey with these talented (and sometimes humorous) veteran musicians. In case of rain, the program will be moved to the Old Fire Station, farther west on Front St.
