Toledo, Ohio — A Toledo police officer shot an armed suspect late Sunday night after responding to a reported weapons incident on Airport Highway.
According to authorities, officers were dispatched around 11:52 p.m. to the 3800 block of Airport Highway following reports of a man making threats while armed with a firearm. Upon arrival, officers encountered the suspect, identified as Michael Savage, who was in possession of a handgun.
During the encounter, an officer discharged their weapon, striking Savage. He was taken into custody at the scene, and the firearm was recovered. Savage was transported to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
No officers were injured during the incident.
The officer involved has been placed on paid administrative leave in accordance with department policy and union agreements.
The Toledo Police Department Investigative Services Section is conducting an investigation into the shooting. Authorities indicated that the officer’s identity, along with any available body camera or dash camera footage, will be released in accordance with department policy and applicable laws.
