Swanton, Ohio — January 27, 2026
A fire broke out earlier today at the Swanton Police Department, leaving the station likely a total loss, according to a statement released by the department this afternoon. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported among staff or first responders.
Despite the damage, Swanton’s officers remain on duty and continue to patrol the community. With the police station closed, all in-person services have been temporarily suspended. The department is working to set up operations out of a temporary office at the Swanton Fire Station.
In the meantime, the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office is assisting by handling some of Swanton’s dispatch calls. Residents are urged to continue dialing 911 for emergencies. Non-emergency calls can be directed to the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office Communication Center at (419) 335-4010, extension 8.
Officials expressed gratitude for the community’s patience and understanding as they recover from the incident. The cause of the fire has not yet been released, and further updates will be shared as more information becomes available.
