TOLEDO, Ohio — A man is in custody after leading Toledo Police on a lengthy chase across the city Wednesday evening, an incident that began with a report of a person being held against their will.

According to city officials, officers were originally dispatched to the 3200 block of Northwood Avenue for a call involving an adult who said they could not leave. When officers arrived, the suspect — identified by police as Rodney Coley — drove off in a U-Haul truck, sparking a pursuit that moved through multiple neighborhoods.

The chase came to an end near Larchmont Estates, where authorities say Coley attempted to run from the scene before being arrested. He now faces charges including kidnapping and fleeing and eluding. Police say the victim was not hurt.

During the incident, three Toledo Police officers were taken to the hospital after two police vehicles collided while trying to position themselves ahead of the pursuit. The officers suffered minor injuries and have since been released. Officials at the scene noted the units involved in the crash were not actively chasing the suspect at the time.

Authorities discovered three dogs and several pieces of furniture inside the U-Haul once Coley was taken into custody. Lucas County Canine Care & Control responded to secure the animals.

The pursuit stretched across Toledo for more than an hour, with residents capturing portions of the chase on cell phone video. Viewer footage submitted to 13 Action News shows a large number of police units following the truck at different points, including one clip where the U-Haul nearly struck vehicles stopped on Monroe Street.

Police said the full timeline of the pursuit remains under review, including the initial traffic stop that preceded Coley’s decision to flee.
