WATERVILLE, Ohio — After more than a decade of speculation, Meijer is officially moving forward with plans to open a new supercenter in Waterville.

WTOL 11 reports the store is proposed for the 800 block of South Pray Boulevard, directly across from Kroger. The land is part of The Villages at Waterville Landing development, which Meijer purchased over ten years ago for $3.9 million.

Waterville Mayor Timothy Pedro confirmed Monday night that the project has been sent to the city’s planning commission, with a hearing scheduled for September 3. That group will vote on whether to recommend a conditional use permit. Final approval from city council could follow six to eight weeks later.

Mayor Pedro believes Meijer’s timing reflects growing regional interest in Waterville, with potential to attract shoppers from Whitehouse, Haskins, and communities to the west.
