Winter Weather Advisory: 2 to 4 Inches of Snow Expected in Northwest Ohio

Northwest Ohio is gearing up for its first significant snowfall of the year as the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory, in effect from 4 PM today until 4 AM Saturday.

Residents across the region should prepare for slippery roads and potentially hazardous travel conditions, especially during the Friday evening commute.

What to Expect

  • Snowfall Amounts: Total accumulations of 2 to 4 inches are forecast.
  • Timing: Snow will begin this afternoon, becoming steady through the evening and tapering off early Saturday morning.
  • Areas Affected: Counties under the advisory include:
    • Lucas, Wood, Ottawa, Sandusky, Erie, Hancock, Seneca, Huron, Wyandot, Crawford, Richland, Ashland, Wayne, Marion, Morrow, Holmes, and Knox.

Forecast Overview

  • Today: Snow starting mainly after 2 PM. High near 26°F. 1 to 2 inches of snow possible during the day.
  • Tonight: Snow continues through midnight, tapering off around 2 AM. Low near 22°F, with an additional 1 to 3 inches of snow expected.
  • Saturday: Mostly cloudy with a slight chance of snow showers late morning to early afternoon. High near 30°F.

Travel Impacts and Safety Tips

Motorists should plan ahead as road conditions will become slippery, especially during peak evening travel hours. The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission urge drivers to:

  • Slow down and use caution while traveling.
  • Delay unnecessary travel, especially during heavy snowfall.
