Weston Mayor Jeremy Schroeder Steps Down After 11 Years of Service

WESTON, Ohio — Mayor Jeremy Schroeder announced his resignation during the January 6, 2025, council meeting, ending more than a decade of service with the Village of Weston. His emotional farewell speech emphasized his deep connection to the community and his commitment to serving “with” the village, rather than merely “for” it.

“Serving in small-town government is not just a job. It’s a partnership, a shared commitment to work alongside others toward a common goal,” Schroeder said. “Without mutual respect and trust—without making it clear that every perspective is valued—our shared efforts will falter.”

Schroeder’s journey with Weston began 11 years ago as a councilmember before he was elected mayor, a role he has held for the past nine years. Reflecting on his tenure, he recounted his first council meeting, where he learned the importance of empathy and community-focused governance. “That was my first lesson in what local government should be: a process that involves genuine care, shared understanding, and community.”

Under his leadership, Weston achieved significant milestones, including reopening the village reservoir, enhancing green spaces, building infrastructure, and creating well-paying government positions. Schroeder highlighted these accomplishments as evidence of what can be achieved through collaboration.

However, despite these successes, Schroeder cited personal and professional obstacles that have made it impossible for him to continue in his role. “Unfortunately, I’ve found myself in a position where I can no longer contribute meaningfully due to personal politics and pettiness,” he explained. “It’s a bitter irony that my deep love for Weston seems to be the very thing some are using to exclude me from the process.”

Schroeder expressed hope that new leadership could overcome the challenges he faced, enabling Weston to reach its full potential. He also announced plans to stay active in the community by establishing the Weston Historical Society, an initiative aimed at preserving the village’s history.

Schroeder’s resignation will be effective on or before January 31, and he committed to assisting with the leadership transition. “While I may be stepping down as mayor, I am not giving up on Weston. This town holds a special place in my heart,” he said.

Weston faces new opportunities and challenges as it transitions to a new chapter, but Schroeder remains optimistic about the village’s future. “Weston’s best days are ahead, and I look forward to working alongside all of you in new ways to help make those days a reality.”
