TONTOGANY, Ohio — A report of a potential weapon at Otsego Elementary School on Monday afternoon led to an investigation that ultimately determined the item was a toy fidget resembling a gun.
The situation unfolded when two students expressed concerns about a peer possibly bringing a gun to school. School administrators, a bus driver, safety personnel, and the school resource officer quickly intervened to address the report.
Following a thorough investigation, officials confirmed that the item was not a weapon. No threats were made, and there was no danger to students or staff at any time.
On Tuesday evening, Otsego Local Schools Superintendent Kevin O’Shea informed parents about the incident in an email. The message emphasized the district’s commitment to transparency, ensuring accurate information, and avoiding false rumors.
School officials noted that the incident underscores the importance of reporting anything suspicious, as timely alerts allow for swift action to maintain safety within the schools.
