180th Fighter Wing Conducts Nighttime Flying Operations

Toledo, OH — The 180th Fighter Wing will be conducting nighttime flying operations this week, starting Monday, November 18, and continuing through Thursday, November 21, weather permitting. Residents in the Toledo area may notice or hear F-16 fighter jets taking off and landing until approximately 8:30 p.m. each evening.

In addition, Southern Ohio and Northern Michigan residents, located in designated Military Operating Airspaces, may observe training missions that could include the use of flares. These operations are part of regular training exercises to ensure the unit remains prepared for any mission requirements.

While training flights typically occur during daylight hours, nighttime operations are essential for maintaining the readiness of aircrews and maintenance personnel. These exercises provide valuable experience in low-light conditions, replicating real-world scenarios they may encounter during deployments.

The 180th Fighter Wing acknowledges the potential for increased noise and activity during these exercises and expresses gratitude for the support and understanding of citizens in Ohio and Michigan. The readiness and effectiveness of the unit depend on these critical training operations.
