Napoleon Police Chief Edward Legg reported that around 6:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to check on a fellow officer who had been patrolling the area.
“The officer was discovered on East Riverview Avenue, deceased from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” Legg stated.
The incident is currently under investigation, with the Bureau of Criminal Investigation leading the inquiry in collaboration with the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.
Chief Legg requested privacy and understanding during this difficult period. “I ask the public and the media to give the officer’s family and our department the space we need to navigate this challenging time,” he said. “There is much to address as the investigation progresses, and your patience and respect are deeply appreciated.”
